Tony Azzam

Tony Azzam leads HealthConsult’s Digital Health practice. With over 30 years of experience in healthcare, he brings a rare mix of clinical insight and digital expertise. Starting out as a critical care nurse, Tony has since led major digital health projects across the public, private and consulting sectors - including EMR rollouts, virtual care systems and digital strategy development. He specialises in delivering practical, people-focused solutions that improve care and drive lasting change.

Tony connects the dots between clinical care, digital technology, and strategy. He’s worked across all parts of the health system  - government, vendors, hospitals, and consultancies  - and brings this perspective to every project.

He’s known for his ability to bring teams together, simplify the complex, and keep the focus on what matters most: better outcomes for patients, staff and the health system as a whole.

How he got here

  • Led the ieMR Hub and Spoke Rural rollout for 5 of 7 rural facilities within MHHS
  • Led the development of the SLHD Unified Communications Strategy
  • Led the CIO operating model restructure and transformation, including the establishment of an Office of the CCIO in line with evolving service and program delivery requirements for SLHD
  • Was the principal lead of a large and complex service transformation program, including a workforce and operating model transformation, and establishment of a vendor agnostic multi-system product-based delivery and support model for SLHD
  • Co-led the procurement of the Virtual Care Information System (VCIS)
  • Specialty advisory service to the SDPR program in the development of the RFI tender and shortlisting procurement process for eHealth NSW
  • Led an eMR Architecture Review and ICT Initiatives Roadmap to enable real time information sharing between NSWA eMR and NSW Hospital eMRs
  • Developed level 1 and level 2 Ambulance & Mobile Clinician eMR requirements incorporating extensive clinical and executive engagement
  • Developed requirements, architecture definition and static design prototypes for authorisations management for the Real-Time Prescription Monitoring (RTPM) design and business case development
  • Led digital transformation and diagnostic review of The Housing Connection's business and back-office services with a view to digitise their end-to-end delivery
  • Co-led the vendor procurement exercise for HR, finance, payroll, rostering and billing systems, including business process mapping, redesign and requirements development for Seton Villa
  • Led the eMR vendor procurement, pre-implementation planning, and contract negotiations for an enterprise eMR across 16 hospitals at St Vincent's Health Australia
  • Led multiple Stage Gate Assessments of the Core Clinical Systems Renewal Program (CCSRP), as well co-lead of an Independent Quality Assurance review of the Electronic Medication Management (EMM) business case for NT Health
  • Delivered program-wide solution and business architecture, solution integration, design, build (including State Baseline Build) and domain strategy for eHealth NSW
  • Led a team overseeing all aspects of solution design, statewide governance establishment, and delivery oversight for the Cerner Millenium eMR across 228 public hospitals
  • Design Consultant for the FirstNet and Clinical Documentation design, build and implementation across the NSW SBB Program of work as the Managing Solution Architect for Cerner Australia
  • Design Consultant for the Emergency Medicine FirstNet Solution across the England southern cluster eMR design and implementations
