24 Jul Review of imaging services for low back pain (2015)
The Department of Health engaged HealthConsult to undertake an evidence-based review of imaging for low back pain to ensure that the services on the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) reflect contemporary evidence, improve health outcomes for patients and represent value for money. The review was commissioned as part of the Comprehensive Management Framework for the MBS. The project involved consultation with clinical experts, development of a research protocol, a systematic review of the clinical evidence for diagnostic performance and the safety and effectiveness of testing, a systematic review of the evidence for cost-effectiveness, and an analysis of data from Medicare Australia. The project commenced in March 2014 and was completed in July 2015.
