07 Dec Review of culture-independent diagnostic testing (2015)
The Department of Health engaged HealthConsult to undertake a review of culture-independent diagnostic testing (CIDT). The purpose of the review is to examine the potential impact of CIDT on public health surveillance and to recommend relevant strategies to sustain the national capacity for surveillance and control of communicable diseases. The project involves extensive consultations with the Public Health Laboratory Network (PHLN) and the Communicable Diseases Network Australia (CDNA). The project also involves a review of the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) item descriptors and the associated schedule fees for CIDT. The project commenced in October 2015 and will be completed by September 2016.
