18 Sep Tasmanian Health Services Configuration (2014)
HealthConsult was engaged by the Federal Department of Health to undertake a project to inform the deliberations of the Commission on the Delivery of Health Services in Tasmania with respect to assessing health services configuration and distribution within the Tasmanian health system. The work included hospital benchmarking hospital utilisation, and hospital access and service distribution analysis for the major Tasmanian hospitals and the three regions. Comparative analysis took place at two levels, first the range of services provided by hospitals serving similar populations to major hospitals in Tasmania, and then the range of hospital services utilised by defined regional populations similar in size to the regionals in Tasmania. The study included review of key documentation and consultation with key stakeholders to gain their view on current service configuration and distribution, including opportunities for consolidation and/or improvement. The analysis was done twice, once using data for 2011/12 and again using data for 2012/13, so the project commenced in July 2013 and was completed in November 2014.
