Evaluation of the Data Quality Audit and Assurance Program (2015)

Evaluation of the Data Quality Audit and Assurance Program (2015)

The Ministry of Health NSW (MoH) engaged HealthConsult to undertake an evaluation of the Data Quality Audit and Assurance Program (DQAAP) and provide recommendations as to how to improve the DQAAP going forward. The primary purpose of the DQAAP was to identify, enhance and promote processes that improve data quality. The DQAAP was designed to systematically assess both a hospital’s compliance with MoH data collection requirements (assurance) and the accuracy of that data (audit). The DQAAP was delivered over a three year period (2012-2014) and involved an independent auditor conducting an audit of 73 of the largest public hospitals in NSW. The purpose of the evaluation of the DQAAP is to assess both the appropriateness and effectiveness of DQAAP as well as provide advice on how DQAAP can be refined/improved going forward. Key features of the evaluation methodology include undertaking a comprehensive environmental scan, conducting a literature review, conducting consultations with other jurisdictions and internationally to investigate other similar programs and qualitative and quantitative data collection. The project commenced in February 2015 and was completed in August 2015.
