Critique of partially implantable active middle ear implant for sensorineural hearing loss (2014)

The Department of Health engaged HealthConsult to undertake a critique of a submission to the Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) to include partially implantable active middle ear implants on the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) for patients with sensorineural hearing loss. The submission assessed the safety, effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, and financial implications of the proposed intervention. HealthConsult’s critique was considered by MSAC when it formulated its advice to the Minister for Health on whether the medical service should be publicly funded. The project commenced in October 2014 and was completed in January 2015.
