Costing and benchmarking study for Broken Hill, Griffith and Bega Hospitals (2012)

The NSW Ministry of Health (MoH) engaged HealthConsult to undertake a costing and benchmarking study of Broken Hill, Griffith and Bega Hospitals in recognition of the fact that hospitals located in rural and remote areas face a range of social, geographic and demographic issues that often manifest in the cost structure of the facility, placing pressure on the quality and level of service delivery. The work sought, through key stakeholder interviews, to identify factors that make it difficult for the hospitals to achieve budget, and to conduct costing and benchmarking analysis to substantiate the impact of the factors, with a view to influencing the formulas to be applied to ABF for remote hospitals. The project commenced in March 2012 and was completed in June 2012.
